ANGIE WARDLE – SUBWAY LIMESTONE COAST
Mount Gambier & Districts Network Breakfast
As times have progressed there are not only more women in the workforce, but there are also a greater number of women who are taking on entrepreneurial roles.
“In the past years, women have continuously been able to prove their value in the business arena,” says Elizabeth Hodges, Network Leader for Women in Business and Regional Development Mount Gambier and District Network.
At our May breakfast meeting we will hear how one woman entered the corporate world of franchising and now together with her husband has four stores across the Limestone Coast and employee over 55 workers.
In 1999, Angie Wardle and her husband Trevor signed on the dotted line for their first Subway franchise.
“I still recall that week prior to opening our first store in Mount Gambier when my thoughts were: What are we doing? What were we thinking? How can this possibly work?” she says.
The apprehension was short-lived; the Wardles went on to break the State record for an opening week, and have twice won Franchisee of the Year.
Many women have the desire to take on more challenging, rewarding and flexible positions and have shown an increased interest in business and franchise ownership.
“Whilst being in business is a constant challenge, it’s a ride I would not have missed for the world,” Angie says. “It’s amazing what can happen along the way when different opportunities present themselves and you grab hold of them and run!”
“Since 2009 our network has provided the women of Mount Gambier and Districts with great opportunities to build their networking skills and learn more about our successful local businesses,” continues Elizabeth.
“I encourage women to come and hear Angie’s story and be inspired. Our breakfast meeting will be held at Subway Commercial Street East at 7.00 am to 8.15 am on Wednesday 9 May 2012. Cost is $5 for members and $15 for non members and includes breakfast, fruit platters and refreshments,” concludes Elizabeth.
