Change management embraced
Around 12 women in business were informed and inspired at a Change Management workshop led by Ali Uren from the Retail Edge last month. They gained a valuable understanding of why people resist change, the various stages of change, the cost of resisting change and how businesses can benefit from embracing change. Participants left the workshop feeling confident that they could seamlessly manage change within their business and reap the subsequent rewards.
Web 2.0 on demand
Due to popular demand, more Web 2.0 Game Plan workshops are planned for the New Year, with an aim to help more Limestone Coast businesses become web marketing savvy. A recent workshop, attended by 15 businesses, was hosted by WIB&RD and supported by Australian Government Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology and Clever Networks Program. Participants learned about the benefits of marketing services and products through online social channels such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. They'll now be entitled to a further six hours of one-on-one mentoring by Steve Davis from Patrick Baker & Associates, Adelaide to help effectively tailor individual marketing strategies for their business. To register your interest for future workshops, please contact Nadine Digiorgio on (08) 87 696045 or via email.

Anti-violence grants open
Expressions of Interest are now invited for the next round of Anti-Violence Community Education Grants. In the 2008-09 State Budget, funding of $868,000 was committed over four years to an Anti-Violence Community Awareness Campaign. The Campaign aims to draw attention to the legislative changes, change community attitudes, increase awareness for workers who respond to perpetrators and victims, encourage a culture of perpetrator accountability and highlight the important work being undertaken by the South Australian Government. As part of the campaign, a Community Education Grant Fund was established to inform and educate sectors of the community who may not have been targeted by the main campaign. Those eligible to apply include incorporated not-for-profit bodies, community organisations or local government associations/agencies. Expressions of Interest close November 20. For more information visit the website.
Kidsafe award for Anne
Dr Anne Johnson from Penola was recently awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award to mark the 30th annual National Kidsafe Day on October 26. Dr Johnson received the award from His Excellency The Governor's wife, Liz Scarce at a special event held at the Women's & Children's Hospital. Dr Johnson has been President of Kidsafe SA for the past eight years and has been on the Board of Kidsafe for the past 10. She is also the South Australian representative on the National Council of the parent body, the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia. Earlier in the year, Dr Johnson worked on a strategy to link Kidsafe SA to rural and remote communities in South Australia as part of the World of Difference program. Congratulations Anne!
Breast Cancer Lunch
The theme was pink, pink and more pink at a Breast Cancer Lunch held by the Breast Cancer Support Group in Mount Gambier recently, where more than 200 women united to support breast cancer research and thought of those who have, or are suffering from the disease. Motivational guest speaker was Dorinda Hafner who reminded guests that women battling the disease can still embrace a full life. She invigorated the group through exercise and song and also spoke about 'time'; a commodity that although is in short supply for many of us, it is a wonderful gift to give to others.
