5 Minutes with Bianca Tielen

  1. Who is Bianca
I grew up in Gladstone in Mid-North SA until I moved to Adelaide in in early 2004. Later that year, I met Jay, my now husband (at a B&S Ball of all things) in Rainbow, Victoria. He was living in Edenhope at the time and we both relocated to Mount Gambier in 2005. We married in 2009 and have three beautiful daughters together, Audrey (7), Evelyn (6), and Vivian (4).
  2. Your main professional areas/jobs you have worked in over the years.
I started work in an accounting firm in Port Pirie straight out of high school, and for two
years, basically all I did was type letters and do the filing. When I moved to Adelaide I got a job with an engineering software development company where I handled everything from reception, payroll, accounts receivable and payable- and still the filing. Basically, everything that wasn’t writing code! When I moved to Mount Gambier, I started work as a Financial Planning P.A. at Sinclair Wilson before I went on maternity leave in 2011. After 4 years off of work while I had my beautiful babies, I re-joined the workforce in 2015 at Galpins providing administrative support in their financial planning department. Just 6 months ago I took up an opportunity to work on the accounting side of the business, where most of my days are spent attending to the Corporate Compliance requirements of our clients.
  3. Biggest challenge you have faced professionally or personally.
The biggest challenge I faced was both on a professional and personal level! In 2016 my
husband decided he wanted to take the plunge and work in his own mechanic business instead of with someone else! I had only recently returned to work on a part time basis and the thought of giving up our main source of income for the unknown was a terrifying prospect. We took the plunge, establishing Heenan Mechanical, which meant I had to re-hone my book keeping skills and definitely my time management ones with three small children, a part time job, study AND a new business on top of that! It’s definitely been rewarding and it’s allowed us to spend a lot of time together as a family.
  4. Your favourite place to visit in the Green Triangle area.
We bought a camper trailer last year and it’s been incredible for us to just pack up and go explore all the wonderful places this local area has to offer. In under an hour, you have the river, the beach, the bush (the wineries!). We really are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place and we can’t wait to keep exploring!
  5. Recommendation for our members to focus on/ take away
I have found the Women in Business group absolutely invaluable in becoming part of our community. I didn’t grow up here and after 4 years at home I really felt a bit out of the loop-especially on a professional level! I have loved being able to meet with so many amazing women. I urge everyone, once you’ve signed up, actually get out there and attend the events! Not everything will be completely your cup of tea, but I can say that there has always been something valuable I’ve taken away.
